Easy Steps to Stop Smoking Now

There’s nothing quite like using your will power to free yourself from smoking addiction. Each day, we hear people succumb to their deaths because of smoking. You may or may not notice that every time you consult a doctor the first thing he would ask you is, “Do you smoke or drink?” Smoking a few sticks won’t kill you; but the addiction to keep on smoking indefinitely will. Certainly, our body wasn’t built to last and every misfortune, ill-treatment or addiction weakens it gradually. These reasons alone should motivate you to stop smoking now.

So, how are you going to free yourself from smoking? Smokers know the dangers of tobacco yet they continue to smoke. Why is that? These people aren’t stupid enough not to know the dangers of smoking. They know that each time they light a cigarette they’re also be cutting off their expected lifespan, dumping carbon monoxide and nicotine into their lungs, or ripping the precious oxygen from reaching their vital organs.

You know what, this is all due to addiction and the lack of will power and desire to live in a healthy lifestyle. To make it worse, smokers are also endangering the people around him while he enjoys his vice by passing passive second hand smoke.

People smoke for reasons but no matter how valid they seemed to be, smoking is physically a taxing activity. Don’t feel discouraged if you’ve tried several quit smoking methods and programs in the past. It means you’re on the right path towards freeing yourself but haven’t found the right method yet. That’s good enough and we’re going to assist you all the away.

As soon as you stop smoking, your body recuperates from all the lost “stuffs,” and you begin to see the big difference. Knowing what happens when you quit smoking is a great way to find motivation. However, it’s not a walk in the park. Addiction is always difficult to conquer, and you need more than a cupful of patience, perseverance, support and will power to do achieve that goal. You’ll be weak, restless, irritable, mood swings that will last for two weeks. Hold on to your horses and never give up. Afterwards, you’ll feel the gradual loss for nicotine cravings and fitness reemerge.  It’s just but normal; after all, cleaning your body from toxins isn’t an easy fate.

There’s a handful of ways you can take advantage to quit smoking now. Read the articles we’ve written in the past and use them to increase your chances to succeed. Here are some clear-cut ways to get you started.

Choose a quit date. Mark the date on your calendar when to quit and stick to it. Don’t reason out and don’t let your mind reason out; write on the calendar that on this day you are now an ex-smoker.Always ask support from your family or friends. Tell them that you’re ready to quit smoking for the last time. Tell them to watch over you and prevent you from sneaking out to buy cigarettes. It might irritate you but it sure do works if you really want to quit,Smokers reach cigarettes to ward off the idle time. If your mind and hands are busy, you’ll soon forget lighting a stick. All the same, don’t keep cigarettes in your home, office or anywhere. Instead carry with you a quit smoking book like the one written by Allen Carr – Easy Way to Quit Smoking.Eventually, you’ll save money because you aren’t buying them anymore. Treat yourself; buy something you’d always wanted.Change your routines. For instance, if you’re buying cigarette packs from this shop every morning, then don’t pass there. If you used to hang out with your friends to smoke during coffee breaks, then you’ll have to change that as well.Get an index card and write these words in bold “I Rejoice Because I Am Now an Ex-Smoker.” Carry this card anywhere you go, put it in your wallet for easy retrieval. Remember you are already an ex-smoker; read this card every time you feel the urge.We never told you that that quit smoking will be as easy as counting 1-2-3. Take it one day at a time, step by step and start now by taking the first step. Lastly, I only know a few people who could quit cold turkey immediately. I’m not one of them and it took me several months (4-5) before I succeed in quitting. So if you fail the first time, take it as a challenge, and don’t ever give up quitting until you succeed.

Keep in mind that no one will quit for you. There are many ways to quit smoking, we only have the support and resources to help you quit; you have to finish the race on your own. The strength of your desire and determination will lead you to success. If you follow these simple healthy tips to the heart, benefits will come along, so what are you waiting for, stop smoking now.

When Will You Decide to Quit Smoking

I would like to start this post by asking you a personal question. Then to be followed by several questions that would at least make you sit and think for a while that you may consider that “now” is the right time to quit smoking.

When will you decide to quit smoking?

After you have acquired a major disease like lung cancer? After you have spent a large sum of money let’s say around USD10KAfter your kids have learned the nicotine addiction? After one of your loved ones at home acquire a disease caused by second hand smoke? After an accident that is caused by this addiction and habit?Tomorrow, the day after, next week, next month, next year or would you just keep on smoking?

Before you continue to read this post, why not try to think carefully about the questions written above? What are you waiting for, hundreds of smokers are becoming ex-smokers each month, why not come and join us right now.

We’ve heard this time and again, “It’s never too late to quit smoking.” Smokers should think about this very simple yet powerful quote all the time. No one says quit smoking is a walk in the park. It takes courage and dedication to stop being a cigarette addict.

One way to do that is to stop thinking the pains of quitting, as they are only but short term. What you need to do instead is to think all the benefits that you’ll get once you’ve finally put an end to smoking. Are you willing to lose your health, money, time and honor? If you do, then perhaps do me a favor of sparing your loved ones or the people around you.

Do You Really Have To Quit?

Personally, I can only think of one reason why you need to stop smoking now and that’s none other than your health. Smoking robs away your health and vitality. You should know this by now; after all, with so much money invested on warning labels and info TV commercials, it’s impossible you haven’t come across anyone of them. Every time you smoke, that cigarette pack you’re holding right now is a clear reminder that you do need to quit.

The benefits of quit smoking far outweigh all the “benefits” that you get when you’re smoking. Think about cancer, hypertension, heart and lung diseases. Whenever you smoke, it’s like getting a free ride heading towards getting these various illnesses. Pregnant women, listen to this. If you want to save yourself and the baby, you better stop smoking right now or else you run the risk of miscarriage.

If you’ve been smoking for years and years and now you have some plans in giving up smoking, then you are making the right decision. Chain smokers will get all the benefits if they finally put an end to it. It will allow you to enjoy a quality life — free from respiratory diseases such as cough and colds, better resistance to common illnesses and will dramatically reduce your chances of catching pneumonia or bronchitis. We all know that smoking curbs life expectancy of a smoker.  How many people enjoyed their long lives because they weren’t smoking?

To get you started, I’ve listed the most obvious profits, which hopefully kick-start your desire to leave smoking for good.

When you stop smoking, you’ll reduce your chances of catching the dreaded cancer, heart problems and lung related diseases.Life expectancy dramatically improves, which means spending quality time with your friends and family. You feel and look healthy, improved vitality and more energy. In return, you can do the things that you’ve done before like climbing stairs without panting.Your fertility rate improves once more; smoking is known to cause infertility.

We can go forever with all the benefits that you’ll likely get. Don’t think about the pains but think the benefits. Life is beautiful and there is so much left undone.

Ask your friends to support you, join stop smoking help groups, clubs or organizations, talk to your doctor or health professional, go into counseling and ask for their moral support. You need all of them to finally stop. There are proven methods, programs and medications to assist you as you go through the quit smoking program. Get back on the right track and gain control of your life once more.

I Stopped Smoking Using Breath Mints

This inspiring guest post or story was submitted by Carl J.

Altoids helped me stop smoking.

Last January 6, 2011, marked my 167th day anniversary that I haven’t smoked.  See, I smoked for 27 years, & I’m only 43 years old.  That means I started smoking at 16 years old.  Shocking right?  I planned and tried to stop several times.  But, the problem was that I enjoyed smoking, and it was a significant part of my everyday routine.  If I stopped, I mean, something I enjoyed doing, I would have serious voids to fill that I wasn’t prepared nor did I know how or want to do.

Like clockwork, every morning my day started with nicotine.  In route to work, I had to smoke because that was the routine and my brain craved for nicotine based on consistent routines and moments.  My commute was 45 minutes one way.  In those 45 minutes, I smoked.  I work for the Federal Government, which for me consisted of 4 to 5 smoke breaks a day (not including an hour lunch).  My commute home on any given day consisted of 45 minutes to an hour.  I smoked then.  I smoked at home excessively during food, alcohol, sex, etc. consumptions.

See, these were my habits.  The key for me was to change those habits, and do it without any family or friend for moral support.  What did it for me was I had to convince myself that I really wanted to stop smoking.  I don’t have any serious health problems known, nor has anyone told me that I needed to stop smoking because it contributed to health problems.  I wanted to do it for me, and as a single father, for my son.  Remember, I have no moral support, no local family, no friends, nor did I belong to a support group or get any help.  I changed my habits, changed my routine, and replaced habits/routines with peppermints and nicotine patches.

Did the patches work?  Absolutely not!  It was more physiological than physical for me.  I tried the electronic cigarettes.  Boy, were those a joke – they just made me mad because I couldn’t get a serious draw off of those things.  What worked for me?  Sheer will power; the determination to want to stop something I really enjoyed; negative people!

Who said I couldn’t do it; other motivational things that I actually listened to and allowed to impact that change; and living the fact that I no longer wanted to enjoy smoking.  Washed laundry; cleaned house; and put all my work clothes in the cleaners.  After 30 days, I actually smelled smoke on other people.  I realized that I had arrived and the nicotine was out of my system.  I have no natural desire because of changing my habits to smoke.

The myth that you’ll gain weight is crock.  It’s natural to substitute one thing for something else, particularly Nicotine.  However, nobody said it had to be food.  I had cravings, but it wasn’t for food – it was Nicotine.  A Nicotine like minty feeling (peppermints; spearmint; cinnamon rock candy; Altoids (very powerful and my favorite); lifesavers; etc.) touching my lips and under my tongue in my mouth resolved the cravings – or water.  The secret was to suck on, or let these items rest under or on your tongue while you’re craving – regardless if you’re stressing, etc.  The cravings were really strong.  So, I had to couple the mint on the back end with water.

That did it for me, and so did discipline!  I can’t believe I use to smell like that!  It’s unbelievable!  Now, I advocate (not badger) for others who desire to stop smoking.  Most people experience what I experienced, but when I share my experiences, triggers, etc., etc., they seem to relate and say they want to stop.  Are they serious? I don’t know.  But, if I can tell my story and impact lives, it’s worth telling.  I’m so very proud of my accomplishment.

Although my son isn’t old enough to realize what I did, I’m sure he’s proud in some little way that I stopped smoking.  One day, there’ll be no need to count anymore.  One day at a time, one step at a time and it’s all in your mind.

Just do it and “I am curiously strong” – thank you Altoids.

***Note: Altoids are a brand of breath mints.

Thank you for sharing your story Carl and hopefully many will be inspired in quitting smoking. There are many effective methods and ways to quit smoking, just make sure you don’t replace smoking with another unhealthy habit that will make your life worse. Be creative and stop your nicotine addiction today!

Herbal Stop Smoking Products

Are Herbal Stop Smoking Products Safe?

you may be wondering how herbs have anything to do with smoking cessation. In fact, you may be pessimistic about it.  I will clarify how herbal treatments found its way in helping smokers kick the habit, what herbs do in smoking cessation, and if it’s really safe at all. upon reading this article you’ll be able to choose if you should try out herbal stop smoking products or deem that it truly is dangerous.

First of all, you have to know is that various herbs have been used for various purposes all throughout history. it is commonly called Chinese Traditional Medicine, or in the western world, alternative medicine. The Chinese have used herbs for medicinal purposes for the longest time. if you still doubt the safety of the process, then just look at the size of their population. they should have been really eradicated by now if herbs weren’t safe. however, herbs are only safe when prepared by experienced herbalists.

It is these herbalists – not necessarily Chinese, mind you – that introduced the herbs as a viable option in smoking cessation. There are herbs that reduce the effects of nicotine withdrawal, similar to the effects that nicotine patches and gums give you sans the actual nicotine. There are also herbs that liberate you from your cigarette addiction by making the taste of cigarettes really dreadful. Lastly, there are herbal drinks that help detoxify your lungs and remove the remaining nicotine from your system; thereby helping you let go of your nicotine addiction.

Herbal stop smoking products have had their share of bad press. Poisoning, curing one problem and another usually much worse arises – you name it. The problem with it is that herbs have side effects when used the incorrect way. even the herbs used in aiding smoking cessation have side effects. This is the exact reason why you need an experienced herbalist to help you out. The incorrect measurements of the same combination of herbs can yield different results.

Much of modern medicine came from herbal medicines. Reckon of herbs as medicine in its raw form; its power not harnessed. it is simple to get an overdose with them. Regardless, strong combination of herbal remedies in their raw forms are most likely accompanied by strong side effects. one of the best herbal stop smoking products is Zero Nicotine. Another New Year’s Resolution of Quitting Smoking 2011

Another year is about to end and I’m pretty sure almost all smokers out there who have come to their sense are preparing to make their New Year’s resolution of quitting smoking. Some may be first timers while other may have been doing this for the past years that have gone by. I smoked for 22 years and within that period I made 18 New Year’s resolutions never to smoke again. And you could just imagine it took me 4 years before I finally came to my senses and realized that smoking is doing bad things to my body and mind.

The reason I failed to quit is that I cannot accept life will be much better without nicotine. My mind was totally brainwashed that it kept on telling me that I need those filthy cigarettes to live my life normally. I was so blinded so I kept on smoking even if I was coughing all the time. I kept on buying those filthy cigarettes even if I have to borrow or beg for money and I kept on buying them even if I have to walk a mile away to the nearest store in the middle of the night. My friend, that is how my smoking vice, habit and addiction was making a fool out of me before. Smoking makes you really stupid.

I am not writing this post today to tell you that New Year’s resolution of stopping smoking doesn’t work. It’s good that in your mind you have the desire to quit smoking. Everything starts with a desire but how you would make that desire a strong one or become an obsession is where you should be focusing your energies. You must first deal with the false beliefs that are in your mind, once you have done this, dealing with the habit and physical addiction becomes easy. So if you want to quit smoking on New Year’s Eve, do it because you have to, don’t look back or don’t look forward to another New Year, stop and quit smoking for good.

If you want to stop smoking easily, well the secret in quitting smoking is first you have to accept that smoking is bad. You have to accept the truth that smoking is not making you relaxed and comfortable. It is not true that smoking is making you more focused and concentrated. It is not true that it is relieving your stress and boredom. It is your nicotine addiction that is making you feel bad and it is nicotine that is adding further stress in your life by making you suffer from withdrawal symptoms. If you could internalize that you are a non-smoker once more, you wouldn’t be feeling those panic attacks when you are running out of cigarettes and you wouldn’t need nicotine to live your life normally.

Of those 18 New Year’s stop smoking resolutions I made, I never succeeded in quitting smoking. Probably because making a resolution at the end of the year has become an ordinary thing to do and the seriousness of what I was doing was not really in my heart. Although I know many smokers who have successfully fulfilled their New Year’s resolution and up to now they are living the life of happy non-smokers.

So if you will decide a few days from now on New Year’s Eve to quit smoking, let me be the one to congratulate you first – CONGRATULATIONS! You are now a non-smoker. Remove the fears and doubts, remember, non-smokers do not need nicotine to live normally. They are not addicts and the thing that is making you feel the way that you do each time you feel the urge to smoke is nicotine itself. So remove nicotine out from your body. If you have properly removed the brainwashing in your mind; you only have to hold on usually for 2 – 4 weeks before you start feeling normally like a non-smoker. Keep in mind that once you extinguish your final cigarette, you already become a non-smoker.

Believe in yourself, believe it can be done, and believe that you can stop smoking!

Happy New Year to All!

Stop smoking advice; Social anxiety and smoking?

I'm 18, I've been smoking since I was 14. So I haven't been smoking all that long.
I smoke around a pack of b&h gold a day, more if I'm out &/or drinking. I also smoke very strong arabian tobacco (Dokha) through a pipe, which inevitably makes my cravings much much worse, since it has at least triple the nicotine than a cigerette does.

I know I can quit smoking, I know I have the willpower to, I have stopped for 6 months previously. The only barrier preventing me is social anxiety; which is why I picked up a cigerette again.

I'm usually quite a silent person. I'm not completely socially ept. Have you ever felt extremely awkward in a situation, and everyone could feel how out of place you are?

Like, in a room full of intimidating people, and they're all taking the piss out of each other and your just sitting quietly in the corner?
Or ever been at a party full of loud people you don't know, possibly speaking another language, and you just wished you had a drink in your hand or a cigerette just so you look less awkward doing nothing/with nothing to say?

The best way I can relate this, is when someone is standing on their own on a street waiting to be picked up, near a pub thats closing and exiling rowdy drunks. or just waiting on their own in general. Quite often you see them picking up their mobile phones and pretending to be busy texting, or picking up a paper and reading it, or doing anything to look busy. it is EXACTLY that feeling, except instead of pretending to text, picking up a cigerette and smoking it.

When I feel socially awkward or nervous, its not particularly the hit of nicotine that helps, although that too. And its not specifically the ritual, although that definetly helps. It's just something to do with your hands that help. doing something with my hands, like rolling, and then smoking, makes it all the less awkward.

I know if I can tackle this one barrier, I can definetly quit. I have the willpower to stop, its just that this will be the number one thing that will tempt me to pick up a cigerette again; even if all cravings are gone.

Any thoughts?

Which Quit Smoking Aids are Best?

When I was struggling with nicotine, I tried literally all the stop-smoking products on the market. I tried gums, patches, lozenges, prescription medications, inhalers, nasal sprays, and a range of stop-smoking herbs. They all worked to varying degrees, but none of them were permanent solutions to my problem. no matter what I’d try, it was only a matter of time before I relapsed into my ancient addiction. Whether it took a week or six months, these quit-smoking aids always failed me.

The Importance of Determination

The main reason why nothing worked is obvious. Apparently, I just didn’t have the will and determination needed to quit. if I’d felt deeply certain that I was going to succeed in my quitting, then I’m sure any of these quitting methods could have done the trick.

In the end, the quit-smoking aids you choose to use are not vital. if you have determination and the certainty that you want to quit, these products are practically unnecessary. Sure, it may make you feel better to use something to help you along your path. but the fact is that the best stop smoking aid is your own mind. if you don’t have the will to succeed, it’s just not going to happen.

Which Stop-Smoking Products Work?

A small percentage of the people who try nicotine replacement products have success. Things like the gum and patches work by delivering nicotine into your body through means other than cigarettes. Which is fine in the small-term, but what happens a few weeks down the line when you’re still addicted to nicotine and you have a stressful day? are you really going to be satisfied with a piece of gum? this is the problem that many people run into.

Prescription quit-smoking aids have been known to help as well, but you can only get them through your doctor, and there’s a excellent chance that your doctor won’t want to prescribe them for you. after all, they’re serious medications with real side effects. from your doctor’s perspective, why place a patient through that when there are other ways to quit smoking?

I did have surprising success with stop-smoking herbs, but, as with many herbal products, it was hard to tell if the results were real or just a placebo effect. In the end, I relapsed back into smoking.

Quit Without Products

In reality, the best way to quit is to forget about stop-smoking products entirely and go cold turkey. if you don’t think you have the strength to face up to this, you can try one of the alternative treatments used to make cold-turkey quitting go over simpler.

For example, you could try to stop smoking with hypnosis. this is what worked for me, so I’m biased in favor of it. you might have doubts about hypnosis, as many people do, but believe me, it works. It enables you to go cold turkey with strength and determination. It shortens your withdrawal period, reduces your cravings, and makes you feel like you never want to smoke again.

Massive New Year’s push to give up smoking

The New Year has begun with massive push to get more Kiwis togive up smoking.

The price of a pack of cigarettes increased 10% today, with thePublic Health Association (PHA) believing today’s increase intobacco tax will see more people quit smoking this year.

National executive officer Gay Keating says the tax rise willmake many people who have made New Year resolutions to stopsmoking, more determined to stop.

The last tax increase in April 2010 nearly doubled the numbersof callers registering with Quitline and over two-thirds of callersinterviewed said that the tax increase was one of their reasons toquit.

The tax will see tobacco prices rise in total by 28 to 40percent by next year – that is on top of inflation and GST.

The PHA believes 2010 was a banner year in the journey towards asmokefree New Zealand, with increases in taxes on tobacco, and therelease of the Maori Affairs Select Committee report on Maorismoking and the tobacco industry.

“In 2011, we look forward to the government addressing the MaoriAffairs Select Committee’s recommendations, most of which willbenefit all New Zealanders. These include more support for quitsmoking services for Maori women and young Maori,” Dr Keatingsaid.

The PHA also wants to see tobacco displays removed from dairiesand other retail outlets this year.

“We hope that many more New Zealanders will make New Year 2011time for a fresh start in their lives and those of their families, and take up the quit support that’s available,” Keating said.

But for some smokers, today’s tax hike was unlikely to stoptheir smoking habit, the Auckland University’s Centre for TobaccoControl Research has found.

“We surveyed about 500 people a couple of months ago after theGST increase and we didn’t find people were that fazed by theprice. It’s something they are just absorbing,” Auckland Universityexpert Dr Marewa Glover said.

But that absorption is going to hurt them financially, Quitlinereckons.

“If a family has one person who smokes a pack a day, it $4,500dollars a year, a tank of gas a week, over a month for an averagefamily it’s a week’s rent. It’s really serious money.” PaulaSnowden, chief executive for The Quit Group, which runs Quitline, said.

Some determined smokers are even turning to the new fad ofelectronic cigarettes, where they inhale water vapour not toxicfumes.

“We have experienced 200% increase in sales which came with theSmokefree Day as well, when people started to look for analternative to cigarettes and also trying to save money,” PaulMedarov, CEO of Elusion Cigarette Company said.

Quitline is expecting greater demand on its services as the taxincrease comes into effect.

“Quitline is not usually open on Saturday but we want to bethere to support people,” Snowden said.

“Those who use support are up to five times more likely tosucceed than going it alone. eighty percent of smokers wishedthey’d never started smoking and we expect the January tax jumpwill be a trigger for many to quit.”

Quitline advisors will be there for smokers from 10am New Year’sDay right up till 9.30pm tonight.

From today the cheapest packet of 20 cigarettes will cost around$12.20 meaning that if somebody quits smoking in January, they willsave around $4,500 a year.

Smoking related deaths killed 13 Kiwis every day and around 1 in5 smoke cigarettes.

Anyone seeking support can call the Quitline for free on0800 778 778 or visit quit.org.nz foronline support and to register for Txt2Quit, a free text-basedservice.

Ex-Smoker Vanessa

This is a comment submitted by Vanessa from our post titled: What are the Common Quitting Smoking Side Effects

After 18 years of smoking a pack a day, I had my last cigarette on 12-29-10 @ 410pm. I made the decision to finally put an end to my smoking as I’m standing in the express checkout at Wal-Mart. Where, there, staring at me straight in the face was the nicotine gum.  Hmmm $8.00 for a box, or $6.00 for a pack of cigs. Hmmm $8.00 for a box that would at least get me started on the right track and last a minimum of 2 days, or $6 for one pack of cigs that last not even a day. And now, I’m proud to say that I’m into my 2nd day smoke free and nicotine free.  I did buy the $8.00 dollar box of nicotine gum, but haven’t used any of it. It sits in my purse, next to my wallet, as a reminder that I quit smoking. Yeah, I’m going thru withdrawals and feel like I’m climbing walls and so full of energy that I sit here and constantly tap on the floor or the desk with my feet and hands, and definitely didn’t sleep well last night, BUT, I’ll take the withdrawals over smoking any time. So 2 days down and the rest of my life ahead of me. I’m absolutely feeling good about it!!!!  Oh, did I mention to you too, how wonderful it is to smell again or even taste what food is suppose to taste like?!  Absolutely wonderful!!!

UPDATE: Submitted January 07, 2011

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give a quick update. I had quit back on 12-29-10 @ 4:10pm. It has been 8 full days, and I’m doing pretty well. I did not have a cigarette, or any nicotine of any kind. Totally quit cold turkey. There were plenty of times that I had tried to quit smoking over the years, but this time I did it. It’s now to the point that even the smell of cigarettes make me ill.  I’ve noticed that I feel a lot healthier just in the last 8 days. I can breathe better, I have more energy, and the one thing that really has hit home, is… That about 1 1/2 months ago, I started having numbness & tingling in my left arm down to my fingers. And when I would get stressed and angered, I would get chest pains. But now just in the last couple days, the numbness & tingling in my arm and fingers are slowly diminishing.

I still have an appoinment to have the doctor check it out. But it is too coincidental that it’s now going away since I quit smoking. Also, no chest pains, no stress or anger either. It has made me realize, that I might not have been far away from a heart attack at the age of 37 and it literally scares the hell out of me.  I told my husband today that I’m actually scared to go to the doc to see if my feeling is correct. But even if it is correct, I have at least started in the right direction.  So please do what you can to quit smoking, if you fail, try again. We all have quit so many times, but we all keep trying again and again to get it right.

Good luck to everyone, keep your head high & remember there are a lot of us out there in the same boat, working to kick this nasty habit. The support is out there.

Congratulations Vanessa, thank you for sharing your story.

Deciding to Stop Smoking: Rising Above Withdrawal Urges

When you smoke, your body is exposed to nicotine, a very addictive substance. The longer period that the body is exposed to nicotine, the harder it is for the body to function properly without such substance. This is the reason why people who smoke, especially those who have been smoking for a long time already, may find it difficult to stop smoking. They have become addicted to nicotine, and they will need longer time just to cleanse their system from the nicotine. So, even if they have finally stopped from smoking, they are still faced with the urge to go on a relapse and smoke again. This is commonly known as nicotine withdrawal urges.

Withdrawal symptoms may come in different forms, and has different effects on different people. Some urges may take form in the following:

* Difficulty to sleep

* Always being nervous and worried

* Unable to concentrate

* May feel depressed

* May feel irritable

* May feel the urge to light up another stick of cigarette

* Increased hunger and need to eat

Thus, before you finally stop smoking, you should first have an idea on how to fight these withdrawal symptoms, because if not you may end up starting on the process all over again.

Start by knowing the possible urges that you may experience once you have finally stopped smoking. By doing so, you would have ideas on how to manage them properly when they eventually manifest. There several products which can assist you as you begin to cut down your exposure to nicotine. There are nicotine gums and patches which are available in the market to satisfy your need for nicotine without the need of smoking a cigarette. However, if you choose to buy these products, you should realize that you would still have to stop using them eventually because you would want your system to be cleansed from nicotine.

There are also medicines and prescription drugs which can help you overcome depression after you have stopped smoking. Sometimes, these medications may also help with other withdrawal symptoms aside from depression. However, before you take any of these drugs, you should consult your doctor first so that you would be guided accordingly.

These withdrawal urges may come and go throughout the day. You just have to wait it out until the urge passes. You have to fight hard not to smoke despite such strong urges. After several times of being able to fight off the urge to smoke, you will feel that such urges will become less powerful, and you will find it easier to defeat such tendencies. You just have to stay strong because it is not easy to flush out the nicotine from your body, and will surely take time before you are absolutely cleansed from it. So, as you wait, you have to stay strong, firm, and focused. Try hard not to relapse; otherwise you might end up on the starting line again, and you’d waste your efforts. Do your best to divert your attention to healthier activities so that you will not think of smoking as often as necessary. Remember your reasons for quitting, and hold on to them. The process you need to go through to stop smoking may not be easy, but it shall be worth it.

Ready to Stop Smoking: How to Deal with Habit Cravings

Many smokers have been smoking cigarettes for the past years, or even decade. Smoking has become a part of their everyday routine, from the moment they get up from their bed in the mornings up to the time that lie down again for a goodnight sleep. Just imagine how difficult it would be for them to stop smoking, a long-time habit in their routine, when they have been doing it for quite some time already. This is the reason why when they decide to quit smoking, they still have some cravings from time to time; and at times give in to the urge.

Usually, smokers have really allotted a portion of their time for smoking alone. And even without time, they can multi-task and perform their other jobs while they puff a stick. Just a few minutes is what they need to be able to finish one cigarette, and they can make sure that they have just the time to do so.

Smokers can use all the excuses they can get just to be able to puff a cigarette. You may see some people driving their cars with one hand holding a stick while the other holds the wheel. There are also times when you see a smoker light up a cigarette after a stressful event. When people are having fun, dancing in the clubs, drinking alcohol, they too smoke. And the most common time when people smoke is right after a satisfying meal. When they are too full to do other things, they smoke because they feel that it helps them digest whatever they have eaten.

People who smoke can do so every time they feel like doing so. They may bring up excuses like stress, boredom, peer pressure or just the usual “it’s a part of me” excuse. The bottom line is that they have these urges and cravings which they feel should be satisfied right then and there. Smoking must have really been a part of their life.

But, if smoking is really a part of your life now, how would you handle these things when you have finally decided to stop smoking? The act of quitting alone is a difficult task, but the part where you have to eliminate a practice from your usual routine is a lot more difficult. However, if you are really determined to live a healthier non-smoking life, you will have a way to do so.

You may try to do other things in substitute for smoking. Some people who have tried quitting may recommend you to chew a gum instead of lighting a cigarette. The important thing is that you have something to keep your mind off the idea that you are craving for a stick. You may try munching and chomping on unsalted sunflower seeds, or you may also try going for a walk when you feel like smoking. As you fight the urge to smoke, you will realize that It will become less harder for you to refrain from smoking the next time your cravings kick in. Trying to stop smoking is not an easy thing to do, but with the right motivations and with sufficient support from others, you can reach your goal and have a healthier lifestyle.

Stop Smoking: Breaking a Bad habit

Smoking is a bad habit that is very difficult to give up. It is not only dangerous to the smoker, himself, but to the people around him as well. Once a person becomes addicted, it becomes difficult for him to stop smoking. However, despite all the reminders regarding the bad effects of smoking to health, a lot of people are still drawn into the aroma of cigarette smoking.

People should not have started to smoke. Because as you all know, once you have become dependent on nicotine, it would be very difficult for you to eliminate it from your system. Advertisements have constantly reminded people that cigarette smoking is dangerous to health, yet it is as if they have not heard a single reminder. Well, people who do not admit that they are addicted to smoking have a really big problem.

Smokers who are trying to stop smoking can attest to the difficulty of the process of quitting. Determination and will power are needed in order for one to reach his goal of being a non-smoker.

Most people would say that a gradual cutting down of the cigarette smoking is a good method for quitting. Small steps are taken, one at a time to ensure that the process is going in the direction that is more beneficial to the smoker who plans on quitting.

Preparation Necessary to Stop Smoking

Preparation is necessary when you feel like stopping. Reflect on your reasons for smoking, and take note of when you usually smoke and how you typically go about it. You may want to deviate from your usual smoking habits, and try things that you son not usually do when smoking. For instance, you may want to try new things as a replacement for smoking, like when you are urged to smoke, you may just chew a gum or munch on healthy snacks. Or, if you really want to smoke, you may do so but not with the hand that you usually use when smoking. If you are used to holding the cigarette with your right hand, you may try your left hand instead. You need to learn these things so that you can make a good plan that you can follow as you cut down the sticks you smoke.

The Beginning of the Actual Renouncement

Get rid of all the things that may remind you of smoking. You may want to keep your ash trays way from your view, or you may also, for the time being, avoid people who smoke. This way, you are not constantly reminded of your tendencies to smoke. Think of ways activities that can keep your mind off the idea of smoking. Give yourself a reward when you have not smoked for the whole day, this way your act of not smoking will be reinforced. You may also want to visit your dentist so that you can get your teeth cleaned from all the nicotine that may have stained them.
